Free Will vs Destiny

Take your pick. Every philosopher worth his salt has tried to resolve this question. Every scientist capable of spelling science has given his views on it.What do you think?

Why are you reading this blog? Is it free will or is it your destiny that you have to read it. Whichever you choose the opposite can be argued! Hen or the Egg?

Every religon has something to offer on this question but very conveniently seeking refuge with the divine somehow seems to be the answer to this question. How it is the answer, I do not know... But people seem to find it very comforting.

If we argue life is free will then life is scary and is like traversing through a jungle armed with nothing. Imagine this if you reading this blog is sheer free will and you meeting me was sheer co-incidence, then this universe is in deep and utter chaoes. Which means that your life is a set of co-incidences and is based on the whims and fancies of all other animate and inanimate thing. Essentially your free will is the residual after adjusting for a quillions of free wills which have been excercised. In sum, your free will is reactive and you are living in chaos where things happen outside of your control and your reactive free will is messing up a million other lives and so on.

If we argue life is destiny, then it is scarier. Whatever you do, you will always do what you are supposed to do. So why do? Maybe you are supposed not to do. Either way whatever you do or do not do, you were supposed to do or not do. Stupid isnt it, then why live?

I have become quite fascinated by this question and have started reading science and philisophy yet again. Chaos theory, heisenberg principle , these used to be the mantra of my good friend Arka. Maybe there lies the answer. Maybe Narada sutra will answer this or one of the sufi thoughts would have a clue. I am going to blog on these quite soon. Watch out.

You are going to read these posts. Whether you choose to or not:)

Back into posting blogs... Grieve not my readers.

The very fact that you blogged about this is destiny..perhaps you were chosen to question, whilst others are swilling around in the chaos of not understanding or perhaps choosing to ignore? Perhaps your questions are destiny's way of helping you understand better what you are supposed to do as opposed to what you will beleive you want to do....Remember what is to happen will happen. " It shall be written and it shall be done"

Oft tussled affair. But not nearly as good as the others that you write. I liked your earlier writings for their creativity. This topic is too cliched to be creative. Sorry, but I think frank is good. :)

keep writing

Ah, but here we have a complication, do we not?

Is reactive free will, really.. well.. Free? If a girl hit on me when I was a coupla beers down.. I swear calling my reaction - reactive FREE will is.. Cheating !!! :) .. You get what I mean, though.. We won't get into the illusion of choice funda, because the matrix screwed the creativity out of that one.. :) ..

I'm not swinging either way.. But there's always the view that you cannot but take your hand to the mouth.. Whether you take it straight, or whether you prefer to take it all the way round the back of your head is upto you..

You'd always get somewhere by never making a decsion, by flowing, so to speak.. Would that be destiny? But would you 'choose' to do that.. If you made the non-obvious choice, would that be free will? .. Even better, would you end up at the same place, sooner or later?

Bah! I hate these inconclusive cliched topics.. :)

It's funny you should ask this given your blog title already seem to answer your question without exception- "Every man has but one destiny. Neither him nor the world can restrain him from it"

Freewill never exists without Destiny. I prefer to think of the choice as "freewill versus a freeride"
They are opposite sides of the same coin.
Freewill is the "cause" which results in an "effect" called your destiny.
Input being the effort of exercising ones free will, and the fruit being the manifestation of that effort as your destiny (or outcome).
People who refuse to risk failure refuse to use their freewill and prefer to await the coin to flip by itself to reveal their destiny (freeride).
People that exercise their freewill are stronger. They are stronger because they know that leaving "destiny" to arrive by itself is to expect the gratification of the outcome prior effort (or input). Waiting for gratification without prior effort is the equivalent of dreaming for something. It is a sign of unconsciousness to believe that the power of your destiny lies "without you" rather than "within you" -in your will.
Its very tempting to wait for destiny to arrive. Believing it is out of our hands, relieves us of taking responsibility for the success of our own lives.
Every one of lifes perceived problems can be traced to the "temptation" of believeing that the solution is "out there" somewhere in our destiny - or the ideal future. A lack of freewill is a lack of power over what we believe are the temptations in this world. In fact temptation is a really gracious way of introducing each of us to our own immense power. What greater gift could a life be given than the ability to exercise its own freewill(power). Temptation is the weight at the end of lifes bar bell. Use it for exercise and you control your destiny, through a strong freewill. Leave it on the floor and you will trip over temptation again and again.
When we are seduced or threatened by what seems to be external power or temptation (through emotions like fear-"fear of failing") we lose the power (and the opportunity) to "exercise" our freewill(lift the weight of dealing with it). We become weaker and weaker as our power diminishes. We then resort to dragging ourselves to that lonely bus stop surrounded by silent throngs of others, waiting for the same bus to "destiny", -that never comes. The one that gives you a freeride if it turns up. Thing is how long to wait for it to turn up. Reality is not a freeride and "Your Destiny" is what you make it. Start walkin! You'll probably find me on the same path. Oh and bring your own weights, I am using mine.

Free will what a joke!
Are you guys kidding me, there is no such thing as free will.
From the day we are born we are indoctrinated into a pattern of behavior, that is politically correct.
The public face of your behavior is progressively molded by stern talking too's, beatings and dismissive passive aggressive attempts to make you believe you don't exist due to your behavior.
We ARE SO CONDITIONED WE DONT EVEN NOTICE IT.
I feel sorry for anyone living under the oppressive belief that approval gets you places. Where it gets you is entrenched into a submissive way of thinking that takes a life time to undo! I am talking about all the people pleaser's out there that rely on "giving face" to keep their friends their family, their jobs and even the approval of stanger's. The need to be accepted comes at a high price. Too high in some cases. Its like being the peace maker. Sometimes that comes at too high a cost. You dont know until you have been caught in the cross fire, what the cost of bridging the gap is worth.
Me I was a poeple pleaser from my earliest years. It has got me no where. What matters is stating your truth and letting the fakes fall by the way side.If they are not strong enough to accept your truth then thay are not robust enough to be your friend. Tell them what you think, say what you mean, and if they are worthy they will recoil from your blast and ask for another , to experience the unique truth of your world. Be a lighthouse, not a rudderless ship, the waves are full, and the light dim.

As usual, the issue at hand is being determined by the question itself.

(don't forget... words are SYMBOLS, they are not the reality they are meant to represent)

In other words... perhaps we are structuring the question in such a way that it can only lead to an unsatisfying, conundrum generating, or merely entertaining response.

What if we let go of the notion (individually derived connotation) of 'fate' or 'destiny' or 'free will' altogether. Let us suppose that our real questions are: How does the universe work? How do human beings in the universe get from their birth to their death?
What are the forces that cause human beings to act or perform the ways they (we) do during the course of their lifetimes? Is there a way to determine the facts about those questions? What are those ways or methods of determining the answers to those questions?

It is always a matter of one's personal methodology of determining 'truth' or 'fact' that is called into focus here.

In my personal esoteric methodology I will respond to the question of 'free will' as follows: I did not give birth to myself. I learned about the 'rules' of being a human from other humans. Then I began formulating my own observations about reality and began to formulate my own questions about the nature of reality.

It seems to me... (notice I did not say 'this is how it is') that we humans are all connected to one another in many, many ways. All humans are connected to other 'life forces' in numerous ways. All 'life forms' are connected to 'inanimate' objects or materials. All material 'things' (matter) is subject to 'forces' that human beings are still inquiring about.
Therefore, it is evident that all things in the entire universe, whether they be animal, plant, mineral 'stuff' or whether they be 'energetic'... are connected.

That being so... I, as an individual human am affected by and connected to all those things. It also appears that I have the ability to 'swim' in this river. My individual ability to swim does not alter the fact that the river is flowing in a certain direction at a certain rate. What I can do as an individual human is to determine where I want to direct my individual swimming ability within the flow of the river. We are all part of the big picture. We are part of the universe. The universe is in us and we are in it. We are part of one another and all are parts of the whole. Fractals in an eternal, ever self-emergent, intrinsically interwoven and consciously aware.
Enjoy the ride. Make it fun. Create, create, create, create, create
Expand,expand,expand,expand,expand
Love,love,love,love,love,love,love.

We live in a plasma of electric love. We are the consciousness of eternity. We are ONE BEING.
